Hello everyone! Most of you probably came from my friendproject, so welcome! I decided to post the results on my website because there's a lot of information, and I don't think it can fit in a blog post.

I made graphs for a few questions, and for others, I decided to share the responses themselves. I will refer to the individuals with the first initials of their name.

! For some reason, some of the results got cut off. I'm not sure why. Please let me know if you want to see them !

A big thank you to everyone involved!

tumblr_inline_mpkwk8B5T81qz4rgp.gif Question:  Do you think your appearance matches the “scene” you’re in?

H: Probably..?

M: I would think so since i was emo first.

C: Not really, nothing too much

F: somewhat. i'd love to do something with my hair or get a piercing because i feel it'd make the look come together more.

L: Yes

J: Yeah!

A: Yes

R: It can vary, I don’t have one set style so I can wear very traditionally punk clothing on a certain day and something completely opposite another.

MM: Well it depends, sometimes I fit right in, but sometimes I'll look preppy and other alternative people will think "huh? what is she doing here? or the opposite, I'll look emo when talking to preps and they'll be surprised I'll even want to interact with them.

O: Not at all. I look completely “normal”.

MY: I'd say it does

JH: Sometimes! Because I have such a diverse style it can match and sometimes not at all!

RNSure?

AE: N/A

tumblr_inline_mpkwk8B5T81qz4rgp.gif Question:  How did you discover the music?

H: Through youtube, watching My Digital Escape and Bryan Stars interviews.

M: My mother first showed it to me.

C: Through Panic! At the Disco

F: N/A

L: Through other people who were already in the scene.

J: The first 'emo' song I heard was Alone Together by Fall Out Boy, and I was hooked since.

A: Just lurking around on the internet

R: My mom listens to a lot of different music and introduced me to this specific genre

MM: Through youtube, as I was listening to Evanescence and I randomly clicked on some other band's song/video.

O: Through my sister, friends, or stumbling about the Internet.

MY: My best friend kept singing "emo" songs and I just needed up wondering how they actually sounded

JH: I discovered music by my family. They were all very musically diverse and loved it so that's how I am!

RN: A friend

AE: N/A

tumblr_inline_mpkwk8B5T81qz4rgp.gif Question:  Why does the music resonate with you?

H: I discovered this scene at a point in my life where I felt alone and rejected. I was going through grief and felt like no one cared if I lived or died. The music, specifically metalcore, called out shitty people, yelled about taboos and rallied the outcasts. I finally felt like I had a place somewhere.

M: I was drawn to it because it was something i had never heard at the time. I liked the uniqueness of it. I also liked that i could relate to it as well.

C: I've been and still am sometimes in a dark place and it feels nice that someone understands

F: the music resonates with me because the lyrics are raw and guitar riffs have lots of personality

L: It channels a lot of my feelings and how I feel about topics.

J: I was a young queer kid growing up in a fundamentalist Christian family. I was not accustomed to rebellion, but this music really set me free. I feel like I can be who I am.

A: Emotion

R: I learned the morals and ideals that’s in a lot of punk music pretty early and really connected with the idea of never placing blind trust in the government or “the establishment”.

MM: Well I was having a hard time, and a lot of rock music talked more about the things that I care about and my personal experiences than other genres.

O: It’s like catharsis; it expresses emotions that I can’t articulate or say out loud. When I can’t scream, Oli Sykes screams for me. And when I can’t cry, Pete Wentz sings about crying.

MY: I love the music because of the messages behind the lyrics that make me feel like im not alone in my struggles whether it's something small or something really important to me

JH: The lyrics have always hit me harder than other genres. It's not feeling less alone while still able to be upbeat.

RN: It represents the chaos and emotional struggle in my life

AE: I really enjoy just listening to the lyrics of a song, and the lyrics of the songs from all the artists listed above are poetic, and have the ability to resonate with what I’m feeling at different moments of time

tumblr_inline_mpkwk8B5T81qz4rgp.gif Question:  Is there something about the scene other than the music that attracted you?

H: I think the way of living life in general in the alt scene appeals to me. There's a freedom in the way you express yourself; everything is art, there is art in everyone, people within the scene are generally very open minded and kind. They don't want to bring upon others what has been done to them. They're also really easy to talk to and aware of what's going on in the world. Also, fellow music nerds!!

M: I liked the fashion and makeup. Those are two things that interest me as much as music.

C: I love the clothing, but our school doesn't allow it really

F: N/A

L: Probably the style or the community they'll all pretty welcoming :)

J: N/A

A: The style they have in music videos

R: I love the sense of rebellion present in all the music and the acceptance of being whoever you are in the community.

MM: The style, the way of living (I'm straight edge), the general thing about emo is that you can express your emotions and show them and it won't be looked down on, for scene it's more about unapologetically being yourself and liking things without being ashamed, no matter how "cringe" it is, and the sense of belonging to a community.

O: The fashion. Coontails, leopard print, bright colors... I’m working my way up to dressing like that.

MY: I loved the theatrics of mcr, and how genuine all the writers/lyricists were.

JH: The people and style! Because of growing up with very alt siblings they all had different styles and as I kid I got mixed into those styles as well, other peoples would judge me on it and my mom but people in the scene thought it was awesome! It always made me so happy to feel accepted for liking what I like.

RN: All of it really. The style of clothes is really androgynous (sometimes) so I think thats really cool. Not everything has to segregate guys and girls

AE: No.

tumblr_inline_mpkwk8B5T81qz4rgp.gif Question:  How do your parents feel about you being in the scene?

H: At first, they were very disapproving and quick to tell me I would grow out of it, but then I guess they got used to it. They wanted me to dress and act normal. They still don't get why I would purposefully differentiate myself from others, but I don't think they really understand that I was always treated different. My look doesn't change anything.

M: When it first happened, my mom made fun of me, my step dad didn't care all that much. My bio dad was proud.

C: They feel fine as long as I don't put my music on speaker and don't get any facial piercings before eighteen, but I don't mind

F: my parents think i'm weird, crazy, and going through a phase, but i'm not really bothered by that

L: They dislike me being in the scene.

J: They like self-expression, just not the way I do it :) They'r
